Ottawa, Ontario

Ottawa, July 2-5

Just minutes from Canada's Parliament Buildings in downtown Ottawa, the newly renovated Perez Hall of the University of Ottawa is home to the Music School as well as to the state of the art Piano Pedagogy Research Laboratory. The institute will be held in Freiman Recital Hall which features an excellent Yamaha concert grand and Steinway B. There are ample practice facilities upstairs.

  • students who wish to improve their sound and agility
  • amateurs who wish to feel more in command of the instrument
  • teachers who want new ways of teaching technique to their students
  • professionals who wish to hone their skills to the highest possible level.
University of Ottawa students and staff are welcome to audit the institute at no charge.

Many teachers in the Ottawa area may find it difficult to get away from their studio obligations for the entire week. There are also interested amateurs whose day jobs will prevent them from attending the entire institute. For them we offer individual lessons on a pay-as-you-go basis. For teachers, the special focus will be on bringing Fraser's new technique strategies to your young students, allowing them to improve their sound and agility, advance more quickly and avoid the risk of injury later on. Please contact Janice Gray to arrange these lessons, or use the bottom two tables of the payment procedure.

Perez Hall is located at the north end of the campus, just south of Laurier Avenue. It is indicated as "PRZ" on this map.

View this map for the University of Ottawa's location in the city.

Student housing is available on campus only a few minutes' walk from Perez Hall. To reserve your room please contact Student Housing directly. There are many restaurants in the area as well as high quality coffee joints.

For those who wish to experience more of the culture of Ottawa we recommend Airbnb which has a wide selection of affordable rooms in private homes near the university. Book early to be sure to have an optimal choice.

We also recommend the Ambassador Bed & Breakfast at 450 Laurier Ave, just a few blocks from campus. Very reasonable, very clean, very welcoming Russian hosts, a really great breakfast included in the price, and there just may be an upright piano in the living room by July.

The active participation fee covers FOUR individual lessons, daily group ATM lesson, daily seminar lecture, and observation of all other lessons. Auditors participate fully but receive no individual lessons.

The Ottawa Institute, the only one to be held in Canada, is the least expensive in North America. We charge $100 CAD here for what is a $100 USD value below the border. Due to fluctuating exchange rates we cannot pin it exactly, but we try our best.

In the tables below, when you scroll over a price it changes colour. Click on your preferred option to pay by credit card or PayPal at, our retail partner.

If you want to register for two or more days but not the entire institute, repeat the one-day registration as many times as you need.

Please note that due to new 2CO regulations, ALL PRICES ARE LISTED IN U.S. DOLLARS. You may change your payment currency at checkout. Please also note that the credit card charge will appear on your statement as "2CO.COM," not as "The Alan Fraser Piano Institute."
