PIANIMALS ZOOM INSTITUTE - 8 WEEKLY ONLINE SESSIONS

This online event is the perfect introduction to Pianimals, clarifying the ideas of Piano Somatics and making them easy to apply... and it's a chance for 'old hands' to freshen their knowledge and hone their ability to new levels of perfection.

75-minute institute format: Following a short introductory talk, Alan Fraser will lead the group in an online Awareness Through Movement™ (ATM) lesson at the piano. With microphones muted, all participants do the exercises in real time instead of simply watching.

At the close of the "official" institute, active participants remain for their online individual lessons. All participants are welcome to remain and observe. After each lesson there will be a short discussion for the whole group. The eight sessions are cumulative, but we do welcome partial attendance. Register for the entire 8-week course, or pick and choose your sessions from the topic chart below. An entire session consists of:

The Institute Proper:

  • a short lecture on a Pianimals section followed by a group ATM lesson to be done by all participants at the piano (75 minutes).

The Extended Institute:

  • an individual Pianimals lesson on exercises and compositions related to the week's theme (45 minutes).
  • an individual lesson applying the Pianimals ideas to any piece from the standard repertoire, from easy to advanced (45 minutes).
  • closing Q & A session.

Schedule Change: Expanded Lecture Series: Because of the complexity of the thumb's movements, we have decided to expand the Thumb segment to span two weeks. All subsequent lectures will be pushed back one week. Please see revised schedule below. The extra lecture is gratis for all who registered or purchased recordings for the entire series.

If you haven't purchased a physical copy of Pianiamals, don't worry: we send both active and passive registrants a .pdf copy to help them prepare. Active participants, please specify in the questionnaire which week(s) you would like to have a lesson on the Pianimals repertoire (weeks 1 thru 8) or the regular repertoire (weeks 1 thru 8).
