Stuttgart - Reutlingen

RESIDENCY IN STUDIO ZUMBRIOCH, REUTLINGEN FEBRUARY 23, 2025

Organized by Matthias Zumbroich, this residency promises a rich series of lessons exploring master level piano technique - but don't be put off if you play piano for the love of it and not out of professional ambition - all are welcome! Alan has worked with Matthias for several years, and is returning to Matthias's studio in Reutlingen, just a half hour's drive from Stuttgart or an hour on the S-Bahn, for the second time.

Piano Somatics, Fraser's unique teaching system combines expertise from several different schools of piano technique with the Feldenkrais Method. A sort of pianistic Sherlock Holmes, Fraser detects hidden problems in piano technique and comes up with brilliant, unusual solutions that transform participants' playing.

Due to lack of space, there will most likely be no lectures and no Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons in this residency, although we are looking into possibilities for a larger studio space in the neighbourhood for the ATMs. The day will be filled with individual piano, instrumental, vocal and/or Feldenkrais lessons. Participants may observe the other lessons that day for a small additional fee to be paid on site.

OPEN TO ALL INTERESTED PIANISTS

Are you hesitant to attend? Feel you are not advanced enough? Not well-enough prepared? Don't worry; Alan welcomes all, no matter what your ability, no matter what the state of your program. The Institute really is open to all interested pianists:

  • students who wish to improve their sound and agility
  • adult amateurs who wish to feel more in command of the instrument
  • teachers who want new ways of teaching technique to their students
  • professionals who wish to hone their skills to the highest possible level.

He also welcomes instrumentalists and vocalists, who find that their sound, their agility and their sense of ease and freedom from tension improve dramatically with Alan's Feldenkrais for Performers (Performance Somatics) approach. There is no limit to improvement!
