Alan teaches several times a year in Wuppertal. His host Hanno Beckers is a fine jazz pianist and composer, the local expert on Piano Somatics, and the musical editor for Pianimals, Alan's new piano method based on the Feldenkrais Method. After a Friday/Saturday session in Wuppertal, Alan heads over to the nearby town of Hamm to teach at Studio Mauck.
Wuppertal is the home of the inimitable hanging overland subway, the Schwebebahn. It is fitting that a unique transportation system should be found alongside Fraser's unique teaching system that combines expertise from several different schools of piano technique with the Feldenkrais Method. Hanno Beckers serves as Watson to Fraser's Sherlock Holmes as they detect hidden problems in piano technique and come up with brilliant, unusual solutions that will transform participants' playing.
This is a small-scale Institute with no lectures and no Awareness Through Movement lessons, just individual piano, instrumental, vocal and/or Feldenkrais lessons. Those who register for a lesson may observe the other lessons that day for a small additional fee to be paid on site.
Are you hesitant to attend? Feel you are not advanced enough? Not well-enough prepared? Don't worry; Alan welcomes all, no matter what your ability, no matter what the state of your program. The Institute really is open to all interested pianists:
He also welcomes instrumentalists and vocalists, who find that their sound, their agility and their sense of ease and freedom from tension improve dramatically with Alan's Feldenkrais for Performers (Performance Somatics) approach. There is no limit to improvement!
We ask that all participants be vaccinated against Covid-19, or have proof of recovery from a corona virus infection within the past 6 months, or that you have proof of a negative Covid-19 test done less than 24 hours before your arrival in Wuppertal. Please let us know your vaccination status when you register.
Alan Fraser contracted the Corona virus in November 2020. He had only mild symptoms and quickly recovered, and received the Astra-Zeneca vaccine in March and June 2021, and a booster shot in November 2021. Nevertheless, if national Covid-19 restrictions are still in force during the institute, the following measures will be followed for the protection and comfort of all participants:
