Alan's residency in Harderwijk takes place at the studio of concert pianist and pedagogue Julia Drewes. Alan will teach both piano and private Feldenkrais Functional Integration lessons in Julia's comfortable studio, located just a short bus ride away from Harderwijk train station, just over an hour east of Amsterdam by train.
This residency will have no Awareness Through Movement lessons. Observation of other individual lessons is possible by agreement between participants.
Many relatively inexperienced pianists hesitate to approach Alan for a lesson, feeling they are not good enough or not well-enough prepared. However, Alan Fraser insists that we are all here to learn and the Piano Somatics approach can help all of us, no matter what our ability or state of our program. Thus the residency really is open to all interested pianists:

Alan's Feldenkrais-informed approach to performance also helps instrumentalists and vocalists transform their sound and sense of comfort in playing, with minute postural adjustments that release hidden physical blocks. If you have a friend or colleague with a specific performing issue, why not invite them to come along.

JULIA DREWES
Julia Drewes first attended a Piano Somatics Institute in June 2025, and has since been studying regularly with Alan Fraser. After studying piano with Bart van de Roer and chamber music with Joop Albracht and Ton Demmers, she graduated as a classical pianist, teacher and performing musician in 2002. She has participated in masterclasses with Prof. Hiroko Tsuruoka at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany, and with Marie-Laure Boulanger in Paris. She has also formed several chamber music ensembles with both instrumentalists and singers.
Julia has lived abroad in South Africa, the United States, Germany and France, including a year studying South African language and literature and piano with Benjamin van Eeden at the Stellenbosch Conservatory, who introduced her to South African composers such as Arnold van Wyk. In Germany and France she gave piano lessons to both children and adults as well as conducting a church choir.
In 2012 she started her private music studio in Harderwijk, where she is passionately engaged in teaching piano and making music. To continue her professional development, she studied with Gert Jan van der Weerd from 2014 to 2017 and Frank Mulder from 2018 to 2022. She also completed an improvisation coaching program with Robijn Tilanus in September 2019.
As a member of Duo TuimelKruid with baritone and actor Wout Overbeeke (formed in 2021), she is being coached by Margreet Honig, Thom Janssen and Alan Fraser.

Cancellation Policy
If you must cancel your registration, reimbursement will be as follows: Cancellations more than two months before Institute opening date: 100% reimbursement. Cancellations more than one month before Institute opening date: 75% reimbursement. Cancellations more than two weeks before Institute opening date: 50% reimbursement. Cancellations more than one week before Institute opening date: 25% reimbursement. Cancellations less than one week before Institute opening date: no reimbursement except in cases of doctor-certified illness or acts of God. We reserve the right to cancel the institute due to insufficient enrolment; in this event, all registration fees are fully refundable.
